In case of Pakistan, food quality is monitored by a combination of provincial food authorities, local administration, and federal bodies, with a recent shift towards specialized, independent authorities in each province.

Key Food Regulatory Authorities:
  • Provincial Food Authorities: These are the primary bodies enforcing food safety.
    • Punjab Food Authority (PFA): Responsible for inspecting food premises, testing samples, and enforcing safety standards across Punjab.
    • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Food Safety & Halal Food Authority: Responsible for food safety in KP.
    • Sindh Food Authority (SFA): Responsible for food safety in Sindh.
    • Balochistan Food Authority (BFA): Responsible for food safety in Balochistan.
    • Islamabad Food Authority (IFA): Manages food safety in the capital territory.
  • Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA): A federal agency that sets national quality standards and regulates imported/exported food.
